What if I can’t be hypnotized?

The chances of that are extremely small! It is estimated that at least 90-95% or higher of the population can be hypnotized since all it requires is average intelligence, a desire to be hypnotized, and the ability to follow the hypnotist’s instructions. The fact you are inquiring about hypnosis, means you can be hypnotized.

Can I be hurt by being hypnotized?

No.  There has never been a case of injury via the simple process of being hypnotized.  You are alert and aware at all times and will respond normally in any emergency situation.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

No; you cannot become “stuck” in hypnosis.  If for any reason you were left in a hypnotic state you would just gradually either awaken because you were aware the session was not progressing for some reason, or you would drift off into a natural state of sleep and then awaken normally.

Is hypnosis the same as mind control?

Hypnosis is nothing like mind control or brainwashing.  These are extreme forms of the breakdown and remolding of a person’s thinking and personality by the use of powerful drugs and destructive emotional, physical, and psychological techniques.  Hypnosis is not anything like this and works in the exact opposite direction to restore and buildup your emotional, psychological and physical well being.

Will I know what's happening during hypnosis?

Yes; you will be aware of yourself and your surroundings at all times. In fact, you will be capable of adjusting your position and doing other normal things like sneezing or coughing. You can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state at any time you wish.  You will still hear sounds around you like a phone ringing or people nearby talking. You remain oriented as to your person, place, and events. You can hold a conversation in hypnosis and will often respond to questions from me during your session.

Is hypnosis the same as sleep?

No; hypnosis is not sleep, although some people get so relaxed in the hypnotic trance that they may fall asleep.  Scientists using fMRI scanners to read brain waves have shown that actual different physical areas of the brain are utilized during hypnosis, sleep, and the normal awake state. In hypnosis, you can still follow instructions to move a finger, take a deep breath, or “wake up” when told to do so.

Does everyone experience hypnosis the same?

Every person's experience of hypnosis is unique.  One person may experience it as a deep, restful feeling of heaviness, while another may experience it as a light, floating sensation. Some people hear every word spoken by the therapist, while others allow their minds to drift, almost daydreaming. Depending on your personal imagination you might experience vivid imagery, while other people do not. Some people remember the suggestions they are given by the hypnotist while others don’t.  So long as your subconscious mind is contacted, your hypnosis will still work.

In hypnosis can I be made to do something I don't want to?

In hypnosis you cannot be made to do something against your will or that contradicts your moral values. In a therapeutic setting, a hypnotherapist is also ethically required to make only those suggestions that are in the client’s best interest.  You would not be receptive to suggestions that go against your morals or values.
